The successful candidate is expected to represent the field adequately in research and teaching, and in particular to head the research focus area medical education and take a leading role in developing approaches for teaching medicine e.g. in the fields of anesthesiology, intensive care and emergency medicine. Applicants should have extensive experience in learning in virtual environments (e.g. simulator scenarios or with actors playing patients) as well as in planning and holding courses in medical education and teaching research projects. The professor will be expected to cooperate closely with the working groups in the department and participate in the Faculty of Medicine’s research networks [Collaborative Research Centers, Research Training Groups, Interdisciplinary Centre for Clinical Research, leading-edge cluster Medical Valley, Graduate School in Advanced Optical Technologies (SAOT)] and at Universitätsklinkum Erlangen (e.g. Center for Clinical Studies). The Faculty of Medicine offers degree programs in medicine, dentistry, molecular medicine, medical process management and logopedics.
Prerequisites for the position are a university degree in medicine, teaching experience in higher education, a doctoral degree, and additional postdoctoral qualifications. These should be in the form of a habilitation (postdoctoral thesis) or equivalent academic publications. The necessary qualifications may also have been acquired in a non-university context or through a junior faculty position (for example as a W1 Professor or Assistant Professor). An additional degree in a relevant field such as a Master’s degree in Medical Education is also required.
