Thank you for your interest in a job at the Faculty of Medicine.
We are looking forward to receiving your application!
The Faculty of Medicine invites applications for a W2 Professorship for Systemic Neurophysiology at the Institute of Physiology and Pathophysiology to be filled by the earliest possible starting date. The professorship will initially be appointed for six years. FAU offers the long-term perspective of a permanent appointment to a W2 professorship if the requirements of the tenure evaluation are met.
The professorship is intended to strengthen the research focus on Neuroscience at the Faculty of Medicine. We are seeking a candidate with in-depth experience in analyzing functional connectivity and network dynamics in the brain with advanced optogenetic, microscopic and electrophysiological techniques. The successful candidate will explore the neuronal underpinnings of cognitive functions and affective behavior, with particular emphasis on models of neuropsychiatric disorders. Excellent collaboration opportunities exist with the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light (MPL) and the newly founded Center for Physics and Medicine, which is jointly supported by FAU, Universitätsklinikum Erlangen and the MPL. We also expect the successful candidate to represent the field of physiology adequately in teaching.
FAU expects applicants to become actively involved in research networks at the Faculty of Medicine [Collaborative Research Centers, Research Training Groups, Interdisciplinary Center for Clinical Research, Medical Valley, Graduate School in Advanced Optical Technologies (SAOT)] and research programs at Universitätsklinikum Erlangen. The degree programs Medicine, Dentistry, Molecular Medicine, Medical Process Management, and Logopedics are taught at the Faculty of Medicine.
Prerequisites for the position are a university degree, university level teaching experience, a doctoral degree, and additional academic qualifications. These should be in the form of a Habilitation (post-doctoral thesis) or equivalent academic publications. The necessary qualifications may also have been acquired in a non-university context or through a junior faculty position (e.g. W1 Professor or Assistant Professor).
Please submit your complete application documents (CV, list of publications arranged as original articles, book chapters, review articles, list of third-party funding, list of lectures and courses taught, copies of certificates and degrees) by 24th January 2018. Please address your application to the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine. Please contact the Dean’s office with any questions.
FAU has the right to appoint professors. The legal preconditions are determined by Art. 10 BayHSchPG.
FAU expects applicants to become actively involved in the administration of academic affairs and to demonstrate experience in managing research projects and raising third-party funding.
FAU pursues a policy of intense student mentoring and therefore expects its teaching staff to be present during lecture periods.
