Faculty positions

FAU is the most innovative full-spectrum university in Germany. Its Faculty of Medicine invites applications for a Tenure Track Professorship for Biochemistry and Molecular Neuroscience (W2 / Associate Professor) at the Institute of Biochemistry. The professorship is to be filled by the earliest possible starting date for an initial period of six years. FAU offers a long-term perspective of a permanent appointment to a W2 professorship if the requirements of the tenure evaluation are met.

We seek to appoint an expert who will develop an internationally visible research and teaching profile. The position is intended to strengthen the molecular neurosciences, especially glial cell research at the Institute of Biochemistry. The professor is expected to collaborate with the research networks at the Faculty of Medicine and priority programs at Universitätsklinikum Erlangen in particular with the research training group GRK 2162. The appointed professor will teach the curriculum of the Institute of Biochemistry in Medicine, Dentistry, and Molecular Medicine. The Faculty of Medicine offers the degree programs Medicine, Dentistry, Molecular Medicine, Medical Process Management and Logopedics.

Successful candidates demonstrate excellent academic achievements in research and teaching at the highest international standards. You have substantial research experience abroad as well as experience in managing research projects and in raising third-party funding. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree as well as a passion for education and pertinent teaching experience are prerequisites. The position also requires additional postdoctoral qualifications. These should be in the form of a habilitation (postdoctoral thesis) or equivalent academic publications. You may also have acquired the necessary qualifications in a non-university context or through a junior faculty position (for example as W1 Professor or Assistant Professor).

The Faculty of Medicine invites applications for a W2 Professorship for Neuromorphology (Tenure Track) at the Institute of Anatomy and Cell Biology to be filled by the earliest possible starting date for an initial period of six years. FAU offers the long-term perspective of a permanent appointment to a W2 professorship if the requirements of the tenure evaluation are met.

The successful candidate is expected to represent the field of neuromorphology adequately in research and teaching. The professor will take an active part in teaching students studying medicine, dentistry and molecular medicine. Excellent skills at teaching macroscopic anatomy (dissection), microscopic anatomy and neuroanatomy are therefore a prerequisite for the position. Applicants are expected to have expertise in the area of neuromorphology, for example in electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy and live cell imaging.

The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the Faculty of Medicine’s research networks [Collaborative Research Centers, Research Training Groups, Interdisciplinary Center for Clinical Research, leading-edge cluster Medical Valley, Graduate School in Advanced Optical Technologies (SAOT)] and Priority Programs at Universitätsklinikum Erlangen (e.g. Comprehensive Cancer Center). The Faculty of Medicine offers degree programs in medicine, dentistry, molecular medicine, medical process management and logopedics.

Prerequisites for the position are a university degree, teaching experience in higher education, a doctoral degree and additional postdoctoral qualifications. These should be in the form of a habilitation (postdoctoral thesis) or equivalent academic publications. The necessary qualifications may also have been acquired in a non-university context or through a junior faculty position (for example as a W1 Professor or Assistant Professor).
