Funded by the German Cancer Aid (Stiftung Deutsche Krebshilfe), the research project MIGRA-CARE investigates barriers to access and unmet needs in (psycho-)oncological and palliative care for patients with a migration background. The project is led by the Department of Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy at Uniklinikum Erlangen (Head: Prof. Dr. Erim), in close collaboration with the LVR University Hospital for Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy Essen (Head: Prof. Dr. Teufel). The consortium also includes the Departments of Pediatric Oncology (Head Erlangen: Prof. Dr. Metzler; Head Essen: Prof. Dr. Dirksen), Palliative Care (Head Erlangen: Prof. Dr. Ostgathe; Head Essen: PD Dr. Tewes), and the Comprehensive Cancer Centers (CCC) at both sites. The ultimate goal of the project is to develop targeted strategies for culturally sensitive and more equitable healthcare delivery.
